Eight Rows at a Time (free) 04:00
Chorus: Keep your eyes on the field, son Don't you worry about the dust or the grime Keep your eyes on the field, son We're going eight rows at at a time Verse 1: A man who cuts his own wood warms his body twice A man who knows how to swing an axe don't suffer no lies My beard turned gray years ago, but I ain't past my prime As soon as the sun comes up over that hill we're going eight rows at at a time Chorus Verse 2: There's stones out there in the dirt that rise up from below A man who could find them all would be worth his weight in gold But you didn't hear her sobbing or hold her trembling hand There's nothing that can stop me now in the laws of God or man Chorus

On Decoration Day (free) 03:48
A rainstorm was threatening on Decoration Day My old man shook me out of bed Said, "Get your shoes; come on downstairs. It's time that you learned Where this family lays to rest its dead." We took that pickup to the graveyard outside town The entire ride, neither of us spoke My old man had some flowers he grew with his own hands He laid them by the tombstones of his folks There lies my great-great-granddad, and I never knew He marched down to Dixie in Union blue Raised 13 kids and he plowed a field and until the day he died He never quite recovered from those wounds We planted all the flowers and got back to the truck The radio was playing a sad old country tune My old man squeezed my hand, and he put that truck in gear Said, "The rain's gonna start falling soon."

about

For his debut e-single, Fred Love went into the studio with the Green Oaks, two of the finest folk musicians in central Iowa. The result is a pair of sparse, atmospheric folk songs that tell true-to-life stories ripped straight out of the American Heartland.
